Up until recently, to me, 30 sounded very very old and very very far away. But this year, I'm turning 27. If you asked me at 17 where I saw myself in 10 years, the chances of me saying "living in Asia, in a relationship with an American and being able to travel often" were pretty slim. I think it was more like: "Married, maybe with a kid or two, and a grade 3 homeroom teacher." Isn't it funny, and totally awesome, how life can just surprise us like that?
I've been very blessed and fortunate to have had many unforgettable experiences in my life so far, and I'm extremely grateful for it. But, there are still some unchecked things on my to-do list.
Here are the Top 10 things I still want to do before I turn 30:
1. Adopt a dog
Oh man, I've wanted a dog for so long. Although it would be an extra responsibility, I would love to give a loving home to a furry friend. At the moment we are not allowed a pet in our apartment, but if we get a new place, I'll be at the shelter the next day!
2. Visit Paris
I know, I know! Cliché much? But there's a good reason for it. I just think that there is something so magical about Paris. I want to be there right now, and take a photo exactly like this one! There are still many places that I want to visit, but Paris is definitely at the top of my list.
3. Donate a lot of money to charity
I would love to, instead of spending a stupid and unnecessary amount of money on Christmas presents for friends and family, donate it to my favorite charity. I mean, we really don't need more stuff, do we? I think it would be totally worth it.
4. Master liquid eyeliner
This might seem very mundane to you, but dammit, I can't for the life of me apply liquid eyeliner to look anything like this! And it's just so pretty! First of all, my hands are naturally shaky and I don't like spending a lot of time on makeup, so I rush it. Also, because I can't see very well with my one eye, it's near impossible for me to draw a straight line with the eyeliner while my "good eye" is closed. Ugh! But I WILL MASTER IT! Practice, practice, practice!
5. Get engaged and married
Although The Boyfriend and I have already made our commitment to each other, I would love to be able to make this promise to him in the presence of our families and friends.
6. Fill up my passport with stamps
Luckily, I'm good on my way of filling up my passport with stamps. I think I have four pages left, and it just so happens that my passport will expire the year that I turn 30. Challenge accepted!
7. Go on a hot air balloon ride
Don't ask me why, but for some reason, I think this would be such a unique and romantic experience. I don't even care about the location, just bring on the giant balloon!
8. Write a children's book
I am by no means a professional writer, but I figured if Madonna can do it, why can't I? I already have some ideas, now I just need an illustrator. Anyone?
9. Buy myself an expensive designer purse
I think it's appropriate for a 30-year old woman to own an expensive designer bag. But only if you can really afford it, and if you don't have any responsibilities that should have higher priority. I would love to buy myself a beautiful designer bag, I don't want it as a gift. Personally, I feel that it would mean so much more to me if I pay for it with money that I earned myself. Because that's how I roll.
10. Apply for a master's degree program
Honestly, I don't even know when I'll have time for this, but I really want to continue my education. I would love to follow a master's degree program in Education Administration from a reputable school in the States.
If you're under 30, what do you still want to do or achieve before then? And those of you who are over 30, what would you still like to experience within the next 3 years?

I will TOTALLY be your illustrator!!!! Our lists are awfully similar but this does not surprise me as I feel our lives and ourselves are a lot alike.
ReplyDeleteWe both moved to Asia out of school with a desire to travel and teach. We both met AMAZING men from very different places than ourselves and fell madly in love. We blog, love dogs, love travel, love pinterest (haha), and most importantly love our friends and family.
I honestly have always wanted to be a children's book author but mostly I just love to draw. I would very interested in illustrating a book you wrote (no joke) if you write one.
I hope you have an amazing summer vacation travelling!!
cheers
You know, I said the same thing to The Boyfriend the other day about us being so similar! I wish we all lived closer together so we can see you guys more often. :-)
DeleteYes! I found my illustrator! We'll definitely need to talk more about that.
You probably can't wait to go home anymore, you're leaving soon, right? Have a wonderful time with your family! We'll talk soon. xxx
I love your list. And your blog!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet comment :-)
DeleteAdopting a dog is a great goal!
ReplyDeleteI'm also terrible with liquid eyeliner.
I would adopt twenty dogs if I could :-D Glad to hear I'm not the only liquid eyeliner spaz! LOL

DeleteThese are 10 very good goals to achieve! Good luck on the master degree, am sure you will enjoy it! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sonia! :-)
DeleteGreat list! Adopt a dog is definitely on mine. Although I turned 31 this year.. still definitely on my list. Things I want to accomplish in the next 3 years.. buy a home at the beach (we are currently looking.. fingers crossed!), have a baby, and take a fun tropical trip before that said baby arrives! Good luck on completing your list :)
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Rachael
Good luck with you goals for the next 3 years! A home at the beach? That will also be on my list after I turn 30! :-) I hope you find the perfect place!
DeleteGreat list! I need to do one of these myself, I think they are more focused than a general bucket list :) Adopting a dog is wonderful- I have 2 I saved from the pound and I can't imagine my life without them now, we will definitely adopt the majority of our future dogs. Good luck with the master's program, I have been dealing with that issue and it's a huge PITA.
ReplyDeleteYou should make a list, too! You just make me want to get a dog even more now! :-) The master's program is going to be a biatch, as I'll have to do it from Taiwan. Good luck with your studies!
DeleteThanks for the inspiration! I am just about to turn 22 and I am making my own "before 2022 I have..." list. Its still a work in progress, but its nice to read of someone else doing a similar thing! :) Good luck with your list!
ReplyDeleteThanks, girl! Good luck with all your goals for the next 10 years! :-)
DeleteLove this idea! Might borrow the idea for my blog someday. I still cannot believe that I just turned 27... I think there's something pivotal about that number in a woman's life (for some reason I feel like it will be easier to turn 30 than it was to turn 27). To celebrate I did a blog post remembering 27 events or people that have shaped my life thus far.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I feel the exact same way about turning 27. You should make a list, too! And I'm definitely "stealing" your blog post idea about 27 events/people that have shaped my life thus far. That's so interesting! :-)
DeleteFirst, for the liquid eyeliner, please use the gel eyeliner instead, it's more applicable , long last and neat. I hope this will be a solution for you :*
ReplyDeleteBy the way whem you reach 27, somehow you start to think about what should be done before 30 eh?
I did too, just quit my so called perfect job so I can take french class. Sounds crazy to the world, but for me, I have list to do before I reach 30 :) :)
Bonne chance in making this list come true!
xo
I've never tried gel eyeliner, I'll definitely give it a try.
DeleteGood luck in reaching your goals :-)
Lists like this are fun to make - years later you can go back and see how your dreams have changed and what you've accomplished.
ReplyDeleteI've got a bit of the travel bug like you, and want nothing more than to travel to the Maldives before I hit 30. Of all the tropical places, it looks the most amazing!

p.s. - there's never a "right" time to adopt a dog, but let me tell you, it's wonderfully life changing. I'm not sure what I'd do without my pup :)
I hope I'll be able to cross everything off the list that I still want to achieve.
DeleteMaldives is a good choice, it looks beautiful! :-)
thanks for the comment girlie!! happy to be back home & blogging again, hehe!
ReplyDeleteand dont worry you are NOT alone when it comes to applying liquid eye liner!!
;)
